The fight against unwanted body hair in both women and men is constant, and costs the UK in excess of £90m per year – the majority of which goes on shaving and depilatory products, but these will only offer short-term benefits to the user. Unlike some cultures around the world, excessive body hair is generally seen to be unattractive .
IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. IPL is a safe and effective way of removing unwanted hair. Hair growth is reduced and removed by a series of treatments using controlled intense light impulses (IPL) .
At Ageless Perfection we have a state of the art high energy IPL Laser system, We chose this system because of its range of treatments heads and filters that are treatment specific to deliver accurate treatment parameters according to your skin and hair type.
How is the treatment carried out ?
You will be asked to put on goggles to protect your eyes. A layer of chilled gel is applied to the area to guide the light into the skin. The area will also be cooled to lessen discomfort during treatment. The light guide is placed on the skin and a short pulse of light is released, targeting many follicles simultaneously. The handpiece is then moved to the neighbouring area of skin and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated. The chilled gel is removed and the area moisturised. Depending on the area the procedure can take anything from 15 minutes to 2 hour to complete
Does it hurt ?
As the controlled intense pulsed light passes in to the skin the most regular description is of feeling a slight pinging sensation simular to that of an elastic band flicking the skin. It is more than tolerable.
Who should avoid IPL Laser hair removal ?
Pregnancy and breast feeding. History of diabetes or immune suppression. History of skin cancer or keloid scarring. Recent or planned sun exposure / tanning within 4 weeks. Concurrent use of photosensitising drugs.
How many sessions will I need ?
Multiple treatment sessions are required as only hair follicles in the growth phase (anagen) respond to treatment. Depending on where on the body around 15%-40% of your follicles are resting (telophase) and will not be affected by the IPL treatment. Commonly 6 treatment sessions are required to provide long-lasting reduction in hair growth.
The interval between treatment sessions is usually 4 to 8 weeks, but will vary depending on the area of the body. The number and frequency of treatments required is also dependent on the density and location of hair, as well as skin type, hair colour and other factors.
The high energy levels of our laser usually destroys 90% of hair in the anagen phase, this can reduces the number of treatments required to achieve hair loss so is overall cost effective compared to extended treatments that are required by lower energy lasers
Can all hair be treated ?
IPL’s unique design offers you customised treatment according to your hair colour, texture and the location of body hair. Any hair with at least some pigment in it (black, brown, red and even blonde) can be treated effectively although Darker hair will get the best results.
